Since first being introduced in 2011, the Super Visa has allowed many thousands of international parents and grandparents to come to Canada for extended periods, benefiting families and communities across the country, not just socially, but economically too. For example, by their presence in Canada parents and grandparents of adult children can help with taking care of infants, allowing working-age immigrants and naturalized citizens to take a full part in the Canadian labour force. Although Super visa a Temporary Visa for Foreign Nationals it has united many Canadian and Permanent Residents with their families

  • Parents and Grandparents can stay for 2 years upon initial entry, and up to six months on subsequent entries

If you are from Visa Exempt Nation can still apply for Super visa and stay up to 2 years, you need to apply for ETA Electronic Travel Authorisation which allows you to travel and enter in Canada.

This visa has requirements from the Host (Child or Grand Child who is a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada) and the Invitees (Parents and Grandparents) both needs to fulfil the requirements to qualify for the visa.

Eligibility Criteria for Super Visa (Parents and Grand Parents)

You experience must be:

Medical Insurance:

  • Invitee (Parent or Grandparent) must have a Canadian Medical Insurance Valid for at least 1 Year from the date of entry in Canada;
  • Medical Insurance must provide a minimum coverage of $100,000;
  • Medical Insurance must cover health care, hospitalization, and repatriation;
  • Medical Insurance has been paid and available for review by an officer at a Canadian port of entry. Insurance needs to be purchased before the Invitee land in Canada.

  Medical Exam:

  • Invitee (Parent or Grandparent) must pass medical exam held by Canadian Immigration.

Proof of Funds /Financial Support:

  • The Child or Grandchild (Host) who invites the Invitee (Parent and Grandparent) must prove that he/she meets the minimum necessary income threshold under the Super Visa eligibility criteria. These thresholds are known as the low-income cut-off (LICO).

 

Documents required are:

  • Salary Pay Stubs
  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
  • Employment Insurance stubs
  • Employment letter including salary and date of hiring
  • Bank statements
  • Proof of other sources of income, such as a pension statement, investments, etc.

Admissibility

You must be admissible to Canada.

Invitation Letter from Host

A successful Super Visa application must include a letter of invitation written by the host (child or grandchild) in Canada. This letter must include the following information about the Invitee (parent or grandparent):

  •  Complete name;
  •  Date of birth;
  •  Address;
  • Telephone number;
  • Relationship to the host;
  • The purpose of the trip to Canada;
  • How long the invitee intends to stay in Canada;
  • Where the invitee will stay, and how he or she intends to finance purchases
  • While in Canada; and
  • When the invitee plans to leave Canada.

In addition, the following information about the host must be included:

  • Complete name;
  • Date of birth;
  • Address;
  • Telephone number;
  •  Job title;
  • Information about status in Canada (citizen or permanent resident), including
  • proof of status;
  •  Family details, including names and dates of birth; and
  • The total number of persons residing in the household.
  • The following must also be included in the Super Visa letter of invitation:
  • A signed promise of financial support for the invitee by the host; and
  • Proof of minimum income.
