Federal Skilled Worker Program

This program enables immigrants and their families to become permanent residents in Canada. Applications under this program are processed through Canada Express Entry Selection System. Federal Skilled worker (FSW) comes under Express Entry Program, and all the applications under Express Entry have electronic applications, so no paper applications.

First thing first, you need to understand how a candidate profile is selected. The Candidate eligibility for the program is based on the minimum requirements, i.e. these requirements need to be met to be eligible for Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

Skilled Work Experience- Eligibility Criteria

You experience must be:

  • In the same type of job as your primary NOC within the last 10 years
  • Paid work (volunteer work. unpaid internships don’t count)
  • At skill type 0 or skill levels A or B of the National Occupations Code I.e. Managerial or Professional or Technical Level.
  • At least 1 year (1560 hours total / 30 hours per week) continuous:
  • Full-Time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time
  • Equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year
  • Full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1560 hours)

Candidates need to show that while working in Primary occupation they performed the duties bases on the lead statement in Occupation described in NOC. This includes all the essential duties and most of the main duties listed.

Language Ability

  • The threshold for language ability in FSW program is CLB 7. You need to score minimum seven bands in all four the language abilities (R,W,L,S).
  • Language Test Needs to be in English or French.
  • Language test must not be older than 2 years and they needs to be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence.

Proof of funds

You have to show proof expressing enough funds to support yourself and your family after reaching Canada. Unless

  • You have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada
  • Are currently able to legally work in Canada.

Education

  • Canadian education: Canadian certificate, diploma, or credential in secondary (high school) Or post-secondary school

OR

  • Foreign education: Completed Credentials and ECA
  • an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from a designated organisation showing that your foreign education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian:
  • secondary (high school) or
  • post-secondary school

Designated organisations Such as WES, ICAS, IQAS, ICES, UOT,MCC, PEBC.

Where you can live in Canada

You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec. The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers program.

Admissibility

You must be admissible to Canada.

Selection Factors

Once you meet all the above-mention conditions, your application form is further proceeded based on the following six criteria –

  • Age
  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Adaptability
  • Your employment status in Canada, (with or without a job) and.
  • Your language skills (English and/or French).
  • Applicants needs to create an online Express Entry Profile to file their Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) application for Permanent Residency in Canada.

The selection is based on a point system, in which, you need to score a minimum 67 points out of 100. Your occupation must fall under the “skilled occupation list” of Canada to become eligible to take up the test.The judgment of the application form is based on your capability to become financially established after you immigrate to Canada.
